The Sixties saw a revolution outside the footy ground and also a revolution within it as the game became quicker, hair became longer and any footballer worth his salt had sideburns. This decade was a very even one with 7 teams enjoying premiership success during the decade. Those lucky enough to win two included Essendon, Melbourne and Richmond. While a single premiership was gained for Hawthorn, Geelong, Carlton and St Kilda for their first ever. So in such an even decade who comes out on top as the Team of the Sixties?
Total Wins:
If we look at the total number of wins over the decade then Essendon pips Geelong by just one game with 131 wins to 130.

Win Loss Ratio:
Likewise, if we look at the win loss ratio Essendon lead with an impressive winning percentage of 68.6% followed again by Geelong on a win loss percentage of 67.4%.
Percentage:
Percentage is also a good way of looking at how a team performs relative to others. Again, Essendon lead with a percentage of 120.8% followed closely by St Kilda this time, on 120.1%.

Even though Essendon, Melbourne and Richmond all won two premierships during the decade Essendon is well ahead of each of these two in terms of total wins and percentage. This suggests that both Melbourne and Richmond made the most of their limited opportunities during this decade. On the contrary, St Kilda and Geelong both had records during the decade that indicate they both should have had a better return than just one premiership each. Based on the superior record for wins, win loss ratio and percentage it can be announced that the Team of the Sixites was ESSENDON.
