Sure, it is just the entree before the main course, but how do you think your team did compared to the others if a ladder was made of the pre season results so far in season 2006? The results may shock you.
Of course, Geelong being the winners of the NAB Cup sit on top of the pre season ladder.
So what can we assume from the ladder above? The poor showing of West Coast, Sydney, and St Kilda probably reflects the extra weeks they played compared to the other teams and that they may still be several weeks behind in preparation.
Geelong though, was also part of the action in the last two weeks of the season in 2005 and that has not prevented them from taking out the competition.
After being knocked out by just 1 point in the first rounf of the NAB Cup competition Essendon cam back strongly to win all three practise matches and finish third overall.
Fremantle stands out as the highest scoring team, a trend which may continue given their potent forward line consisting of players of the calibre of Pavlich, McFarline, Farmer and Medhurst.
There is also hope for those teams that struggled last year, Carlton, Richmond and Hawthorn all putting in solid results for the pre season.
One thing that can be guaranteed is that the home and away ladder will look nothing like the pre season ladder. However, injury, luck and natural improvement will mean that some teams find themselves much higher or lower than they might otherwise have expected. They may look back at the pre season ladder and see that it predicted their fortunes.
May the Stats be With You.
